Trivia contest features spirited competition

Photos/Charlotte Smith Members of the Smarty Pants team celebrate a winning round in the trivia contest.
Watching the eight teams participate in last Thursday's trivia contest at Troup High School, you'd never guess they weren't taking home the prize money themselves. Instead, the spirited competitors were raising money for the Academic Booster Club Scholarship Fund.

More than $400 was raised as The Invisible Coaches slipped past the Smarty Pants team. The Super Sonics finished third.

Teams paid $30 to enter, and money was also raised from the sale of refreshments. The categories were varied and the questions were creative. One example: Chickens and turkeys can cross-breed. The result is called a ... A. Churky B. Capon C. Turkin D. Elysian Fields football fan.
Supt. Marvin Beaty serves as emcee. Beaty also made up the questions.
Team members consult on an answer, while Legacy 2K7 (right) does a little "trash talking."
Members of the winning team, The Invisible Coaches, are (left to right) Sonny Selden, Donna Selden, Kevin Martin, Tracye Martin and Melissa Eastman. Coach John Eastman also participated, but disappeared before the photo. The group above represented coaches Chambless, Sparks, Jackson, Fraizer and Rohrs.
