Student to attend leadership academy

Tristen Walsworth
Tristen Walsworth, son of Destry Walsworth and Leslie Braswell and a student at Troup Elementary School, has been selected to travel to the Dallas/ Fort Worth area as a participant in Education in Action's Leadership Academy, June 25-29.

Tristen's selection for the Academy was based on his outstanding academic success, demonstrated leadership ability, a recommendation by his teacher, Val LaMotte, and Tristen's school/community involvement including participation in the Grid Iron Bowl at Texas Stadium, playing baseball for the Troup Apaches, receiving a Student of the Month Award in March 2007, and being commended for his performance on the TAKS test.

Education in Action, dedicated to fostering educated and involved Texans, hosts the Lone Star Leadership Academy to "Instill the Spirit of Texas in Tomorrow's Leaders."

Joining a delegation of outstanding students from across the state of Texas, Tristen will develop leadership skills while learning about the state of Texas and its leaders. He will learn about career and internship opportunities and visit significant Texas sites including the U.S. Bureau of Engraving and Printing, the Science Place at Fair Park, the Dallas World Aquarium, the Fort Wor th Stockyards National Historic District, the Amon Carter Museum, the Texas Civil War Museum, Ameriquest Field in Arlington, Louis Tussaud's Palace of Wax and the Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza.

Although there are many activities students can participate in during summer break, the Lone Star Leadership Academy provides unique opportunities for outstanding fifth through eighth graders to learn about the spirit of Texas and what it truly means to be from the Lone Star State.

Education in Action also offers a Lone Star Leadership Academy - Austin program for outstanding sixth or seventh graders and Houston/ Galveston program for outstanding seventh and eighth graders.
