McFarlin promotes Moore, Shields
Coach Shields is the new defensive coordinator, assuming those duties from McFarlin, who has been pulling double duty as head coach and defensive play-caller. "This will allow me to function more effectively as the head coach and athletic director. Being the defensive coordinator locked me down at least two hours a day," said McFarlin. Shields, who came to WH last year from Henderson, will continue in his role a defensive coach for defensive tackles and linebackers. "I knew Coach Shields would be a great addition to our staff when he joined us. I know he will do a fantastic job of preparing our defense," said McFarlin. Coach Moore has been promoted to assistant head coach and will also continue with his present duties as offensive coordinator. "Along with his duties of preparing the Wildcat offense, he will handle college recruiting, plus some administrative duties," said McFarlin. "Coach Moore is ready for a head coaching position. He's that good," added McFarlin, who brought Moore with him from Daingerfield three years ago. "A lot of places would love to have him, and we want to keep him here. He has been an instrumental part of our success."
Moore began his coaching career at Pleasant Grove in Texarkana as offensive coordinator. He spent four years as OC for Linden-Kildare and then was a runningback and offensive line coach at South Lake Carroll before going to Daingerfield. Coach Shields spent four years as the defensive coordinator at Henderson before coming to Whitehouse. Prior to that, he had been with Plano High School for 17 years, including four as defensive coordinator. |
