Flag retirement ceremony set May 19 in Troup The American Legion Post in Troup will host an American flag retirement ceremony 1 p.m. Saturday, May 19. The dignified disposal of unserviceable American flags will be conducted by Boy Scout Troup Master Charles Parker, Danny Hayden and the Boy Scout Troup #359 of Whitehouse. The Boy Scouts of America are one of the groups formally designated to provide this community service by honorably disposing of worn U.S. flags. According to the BSA website, worn U.S. flags may be burned or buried with honor and dignity. The special guest speaker will be U.S. Rep. Louie Gohmert. The ceremony will be overseen by Sergeant-At-Arms, Retired U.S. Army CSM David Gogan and Adjutant, U.S. Retired Army, Womens Army Corp Patsy Carroll. The community is encouraged to bring their old flags to our post to be disposed of properly, said Commander Jim Chustz. The deadline for delivery of the flags to the post is May 11. Everyone is invited to attend this ceremony. Following the ceremony the American Legion Auxiliary will be serving refreshments and food in the Post banquet hall.
