Tigers hand out awards at Athletic Banquet

Troup High School athletes were honored Tuesday night at the annual Athletic Banquet.

Athletic director John Eastman served as master of ceremonies and presented the athletes.

Eastman thanked booster club members Mike Riddle, Maria Huckaby and Cindy Steele for organizing the banquet and also expressed appreciation for members of the decorating committee.

Prior to the presentation of athletes, Eastman also thanked the parents. "We are ver y thankful for the opportunity to coach, the opportunity parents give us to work with these young men and women," he said. "Hopefully, we make an impression on them that will make a positive difference."

Following a PowerPoint presentation highlighting the year's achievements, the athletes were presented by grade level.

Senior athletes were Brice Clark, Abby Darden, Chris Davis, Larry Gault, Murtafa Ghene, Kristen Gibson, Nick Harrison, Jaron Hasley, Cordell Jiles, Kaston Kincade, Rashad Martin, Jason O'Steen, Justan O'Steen, Hagan Patterson, B.J. Rambo, John Ross, Courtney Stovall, Chiquita Talley, Logan Thompson, Josh Tollett, Chris Ward and Teri Woodruff.

Eastman also noted the cumulative four-year accomplishments of this group. The football team went 44-8, there were two basketball playoff appearances, back-to-back district baseball championships, three playoff appearances for softball, a first playoff trip for girls basketball, two regional qualifiers in cross country and one state qualifier, Chiquita Talley, in shot put.

"This senior class will be ver y much missed," said Eastman.

Following the presentation of athletes by grade level, specialty awards were given in each sport, up to four categories: Newcomer, Most Improved, MVP and Fighting Tiger Heart.

Cross country: Jake Herrington, MVP and Fighting Tiger Heart; Carlos Garcia, Most Improved; Taylor Beaty, Newcomer.

Power lifting: Cody LePelley, MVP; Thomas Lammons, Most Improved; C.J. Deason, Newcomer; Joseph Noyola, FTH.

Kaston Kincade was named Outstanding Cheerleader.

Mike Riddle presented five scholarships on behalf of the Athletic Booster Club. Receiving $250 each were B.J. Rambo, Josh Tollett, Chris Davis, Hagan Patterson and Nick Harrison.

The Troup Youth Association also gave five scholarships, in the amount of $200 each. Recipients were Chris Davis, Nick Harrison, Jason and Justan O'Steen and Hagan Patterson.

The seniors members of the boys baseball team also made a presentation, giving their coaching staff personalized bats.

In his closing remarks, Coach Eastman thanked Kathy Marshall for preparing the slide presentations, and he asked the audience to stand and salute the Moms Club for all they do. He also presented Moms Club president Carrie Patterson with flowers.

Turning his attention to the future, Eastman noted that more sports were able to field junior varsity and/or freshman squads this year, and that the JV baseball team in particular had a strong year with just one loss.

Eastman also congratulated the girls basketball team for a playoff appearance and said there would be high expectations for next year.

"The future for us is bright," he said. "We have great kids and the support of the parents. I just can't say enough about that combination."
