WISD board extends TMF trainer contract

During Tuesday's meeting Whitehouse ISD trustees heard good news from several campuses.

First up was Tom Luce, principal at Higgins Intermediate. His report included the efforts of his students which culminated in raising $8,923 for the American Heart Association during their Jump for Heart campaign. They finished num- ber one in Smith County and number eight in 32 counties consisting of 215 schools.

Several donations to the district were accepted including those from Target, Box Tops for Education and Whitehouse Athletic Booster Club.

Reports from the superintendent included approval by the trustees of adjustments to the pay range structures in the compensation plan. Also receiving approval was the teacher appraisal calendar for 2007- 2008 school year.

David Smith, junior high principal, gave a brief report of the success on his campus with the math improvement class. It has yielded a great increase in students passing the math portion of the TAKS test.

Following executive session, the board approved the employment of Angela Downs, Ginny Fransen and Alesha Pither on the Cain Elementary campus as well as Kimberly Updike at the junior high. Sterling Haskell's contract was changed from term to dual assignment.

The contract the district has with Trinity Mother Frances System was extended for an addition year which includes a third athletic trainer whose focus is on the approximate 375 athletes at the junior high campus.

The Board of Tr ustee meeting calendar for the 2007-2008 school year was approved and released.

Facing no opposition, trustees Kevin Cashion and Vince Primo took their oath of office for new terms on the board.

The board chose to keep Randal Robinson as their president, Jason Wade was elected vice president and Darrell Crymes was elected as secretary.
