'Best of the Cats' recognized at assembly

Principal Tony Black introduced Lehia Hill as the winner of the Hugh O'Brien Youth Leadership award. HOBY is an international organization dedicated to the recognition and development of leadership potential commencing with high school sophomores.
Whitehouse High School presented academic awards before parents and students Tuesday.

PTSA Reflections awards were presented by Lisa Kendall. Ninth grade awards went to Emily Costlow, Ethan Stowe and Cagen Medlock. Tenth grade winners were Cree Howard, Josh Ware and Melonie Floyd. Taylor Russell and Christina Whitehead placed for eleventh grade. Seniors Taylor McCain, Morgan Jamison and Brandi Pace also placed.

Dorothy LaFlure presented an award to Christina Kennemer for her photography entry in the Texas PTA Environmental Awareness. Kennemer placed as honorable mention at the state level.

WHS members of the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Choir were recognized by Amy McMichael. Those students are Heath Mayo, Maurice Laperriere and Raven Minter.

Tom Young announced George "Bubba" Williams as the Sophomore of the Year given by the Kiwanis Club. This is a prestigious award given annual to a deserving sophomore for exhibiting leadership skills.

The 2007 District 17-4A UIL Academic team was introduced along with their accomplishments of the year which included first place overall for the district, second in the overall standings at regional and several individuals who placed at the state level. Those included the science team which took second: Brian Crawford, Mat Dostal, Daniel Herrig and Andrea Crawford. Brian Crawford finished fourth in the state in computer science and Caitlan Bartle came in first in editorial writing.

Individual academic achievement awards were given by department. In English, Pat Falls presented awards to Lauren Brooke Fulton for English I, Shiv Rawal for Pre-AP English I, Elizabeth Anderson for English II, Heath Mayo for Pre-AP English II, Kyle Ford for English III, Travis Tincher for AP English III, Paul Metzner for English IV, Maegan Westbrook for AP English IV and Matthew Bowers for Communication.

Heath Mayo and Raven Minter received recognition for their achievements in being chosen as part of the Texas Music Educators Association All-State Choir.
Mathematics awards were presented by Vickey Garlock to Loren Martinez for Pre-Algebra, Dustin Givens for Studies in Algebra, Brad Kiser for Studies in Geometry, Ashley Helsel in Math Models and Chelsey Robertson for Computer Math.

Also in math was Lauren Brooke Fulton for Algebra I, Sarah Grace Sweeney for Pre- AP Algebra I, Sheridan Smith for Geometry, Katherine Carver for Algebra II, Shiv Rawal for Pre-AP Geometry, Heath Mayo for Pre-AP Algebra II, Caleb Jacque for College Pre-Calculus, Kyle Ford for Pre-Calculus, Daniel Herrig for PAP Pre-Calculus and Jed McNeill for AP Calculus.

Ann Butler of the science department gave out awards to Lauren Brooke Fulton for IPC, Natalie Townsend for Biology, Shiv Rawal for Pre-AP Biology, Katie Licht for AP Biology, Hope Smith for Chemistry, Heath Mayo Pre-AP Chemistry, Jed McNeill for AP Chemistry, Katie Licht for Anatomy and Physiology, Kirstie Henning for PAP Physics, Taylor McCain for Conceptual Physics, Jasmine Mackey for Environmental Science and Ryan Neel for Physical Science.

Seniors making the A Honor Roll all year were Sarah Adams, Banks Brandon, Stephany Crawford, Kye Heck, Erica Kirkpatrick, Britt Martin, Taylor McCain, Jed McNeill, Allyson Watson, Julie Woolverton and Abbi Wright.
In Social Studies, John Keeling presented awards to Shiv Rawal for Pre-AP World Geography, Lauren Brooke Fulton for World Geography, Brooke Gray for World Histor y, Meredith Mohr for Pre-AP World History, Heath Mayo for AP World History, Evgheni "Jay" Jideliov for U.S. History, Daniel Herrig for Pre-AP U.S. History, Amanda Barnes for AP U.S. History, Jed McNeill for Government and Ecomonics, Will Quinn for AP Economics, Bryan Smith for AP Government, Kyle Ford for Psychology, Ryan Neel for Social Studies I, Chris Terry for Social Studies III, and Dorian Bell for Social Studies IV and V.

Sophomore students making the A Honor Roll all year were Wesley Holt, Heath Mayo, Sarah Stewart and Matthew Struble.
In the Journalism department Pam Miller presented awards to Sarah Stewart for Journalism, Caitlan Bartle for Newspaper I, Jordan Jackson for Newspaper II, Krista Snyder for Desktop Publishing, Leah Pierce for Yearbook I, Brittnee Davis for Yearbook II and John Voorhies for Photojournalism.

Sarah Ward of the Modern Language department gave awards to Abigail Crawford for French I, Heath Mayo for French II, Abigail Godinez for Honors French III, Morgan Booker for Spanish I, Shiv Rawal for Spanish II, Matthew Strubble for PAP Spanish III, Sarah Adams for Spanish III and Tanner Fedell AP Spanish V.

Speech, Debate and Fine Arts department awards were presented by Christine Killian. The awards went to Blayne Ballard for Speech, Kenda Bilberry for Debate I, T.J. Rankin for Theater Arts I, Heather Matthews for Theater Arts II, Chase Collins for Theater Arts III, Jared Nipp for Theater Arts IV and Courtnie Bishop for Theater Production I.

Freshman students making the A Honor Roll all year were Emily Costlow, Abigail Crawford, Lauren Brooke Fulton, Gabrielle Gesulgon, Carson McKown, Mallory Miner, Tanner Odom, Shiv Rawal and Sarah Grace Sweeney.
Morgan Jamison received an award for Art I, Casey Booth for Pre AP Art, Jon Harvell for AP Art, Kayla Zelaya for Art-Drawing II, Cory Terre for Art-Drawing III, Emily Phillips for Painting II and III and Molly Carrington for Sculpture II and III.

Dance I award was given to Alexa Fisher and Dance II to Abigail Godinez.

Amy McMichael presented awards to Ashley Alexander for Treble Choir, Raven Minter for Mixed Choir and Kaylee Kunzman for Show Choir.

Leah Stanley presented the Career and Technology Department awards. They were Abbi Wright for BCIS I, Kirstie Henning for BCIS II, Mat Dostal for Web Mastering, Daniel Herrig for Computer Science I, Andrea Crawford for Computer Science II, Brian Crawford for AP Computer Science, Ashlee Hayes for Record Keeping, Allyson Watson for Intro to Business, J.J. Massey for Keyboarding and Courtney Grissom for Accounting.

Also Austin Stevenson received recognition for Medical Terminology, Tanner Fedell for Health Science I, Kelli Hill for Health Science II, Abbi Wright for Health Science III and Joshua Wilson for Technology Systems.

Holly Mann presented awards to Jessica West for Personal and Family Development, Jessica Romero for Preparation for Parenting as well as Food Science and Technology, Molly Carrington for Child Development, Ashley Potter for Housing, Brittany Newsome for Interior Design and Jed Ware for Nutrition and Food Science.

Will Quinn received an award for Computer Applications, Brian Crawford for Engineering Graphics, Taylor Lemons for Architectural Graphics, Drew Dollohite Intro to World Agriculture, Dakota Nelson for Applied Ag Science and Technology, Rachel Dudley for Wildlife Management, Kyle Ford for Canine Science and Keith Post for Animal Science.

Also Michael South received an award for Intro to Ag Mechanics, Garrett Ehrmann for Metal Fabrication, Derek Parker for Ag Mechanics, Nathan McClenny for Landscape Design, Jeff Sanders for Fruit, Nut and Vegetable Production, John Thornton for Horticulture I and Maegan Westbrook for Diversified Career Preparation.

Don Garlitz presented health and physical education awards to Jalexia Moore for Health and Rachel Motes for Physical Education.
