Community picnic set in Troup

Fathers and sons, as well as moms and daughters and everyone else, are invited to a community wide event in Troup on Saturday, June 16.

The Fathers and Sons Picnic will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Taylor Park (behind the police substation) in honor of Father's Day on Sunday, June 17.

Willie Lacy of Lighthouse Church of Prayer, an organizer of the event, stressed that anyone and everyone was invited to attend, and that he welcomed other churches or groups to help sponsor.

"We want ever ybody to come out and have a good time," said Lacy. "This is for the whole community and is non-denominational."

Lacy said the Fathers and Sons Picnic will feature music and games plus a variety of refreshments including hot dogs, ice cream and watermelon.

"Troup has had its share of negative publicity lately, mostly about one percent of the population," said Lacy. "We want to focus on something positive and fun."
