Fathers and Sons event planned June 16 in Troup

Fathers and sons, as well as moms and daughters and everyone else, are invited to a community wide event in Troup on Saturday, June 16.

The Fathers and Sons event will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the baseball fields in honor of Father's Day on Sunday, June 17.

Fathers and Sons event will feature music and games, such as horseshoes, three-point contest and sack race, plus a variety of refreshments including hot dogs, chips, ice cream and watermelon.

The men, young and old, will manage the event, while the women can relax, socialize and enjoy a worry-free Saturday, said organizer Willie Lacy of Lighthouse Church of Prayer.

"Our community is still recovering from the negative publicity involving illegal activities from one percent of our population; therefore, let's unite as 100 percent to give Texas something positive from Troup," said Lacy.

"It is our responsibility as citizens. All we ask is that you come and have fun, food and fellowship amongst each other," he added.
