VFW plans Flag Day celebration At the regular monthly meeting of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1799 on Rhones Quarter Road, Nathanael J. Neeley took the oath of office as the new commander. He previously held the position of junior vice commander. Plans were also made for the post to honor their comrades who are serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and around the world during a Flag Day celebration on June 9. The ceremony begins at 3 p.m. with children's activities from 3-7 p.m., food served until 7 p.m. and music beginning at 8 p.m. Families of current service members are invited as well as the public. Commander Neeley served with the 8th U.S. Army, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) 1st PERSCOM, 1st Armored Division, with overseas tours of duty in Korea, Germany and Sinai Egypt. His awards include Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Multinational Forces and Observers Medal and Non-Commissioned Officer Professional Development Rib- bon. Re-elected officers for Post 1799 are Bobby Cole as senior vice commander, Jim Ferguson as junior vice commander, Vincent LoBianco as quartermaster and James V. Alden as chaplain. |
