'Sail Away With Books' at the Whitehouse library The summer reading program at Whitehouse Community Library sets sail Saturday with a "Pirate's Party" scheduled from 3:30-5 p.m. This event is the kick-off celebration of the Texas Summer Reading Program, with a theme of "Sail Away With Books." "More than 150 children read over 20,000 pages last summer," said Sandra Knackstedt, library director, "and we anticipate that our readers will break that record." Following the kick-off party, the weekly program will begin on Wednesday, June 20 and continue each Wednesday on these dates: June 27, July 11, July 18 and July 25. Meeting times for the summer reading program are designated by age: Sailors (age 3 to 6 years old) meet from 9:30- 10:15 a.m.; First Mates (age 7 to 10 years old), 10:30-11:15 a.m.; and Captains (age 11 to 14 years old), 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. The weekly themes for the Reading Club will be: June 20: "Sailing with Creepy Crawlies" (all ages meet from 10 a.m. to noon) June 25: "Sail to the South Pole" July 11: "Sail into Space" July 18: "Sail with Birds" July 25: "Island Sailing" Except for the June 20 meeting, all age groups meet at their designated times. |
