Troup City Council honors Bonnie Hinkle

Bonnie Hinkle is honored for 10 years of service to the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library. Presenting the plaque are Russ Obar, Troup city administrator, and Mayor John Whitsell (right).
Mayor John Whitsell presented an award of honor to Bonnie Hinkle for her 10 years of ser vice to the citizens of Troup through her work at the Cameron-J. Jarvis Municipal Library. "It's people like you who make this town so great," Whitsell said.

Other business on the agenda included a time for citizens to offer input concerning the 2006 Consumer Confidence Report that was provided to all users of the Troup municipal water supply. No one came forward to speak.

Also on the agenda was a request by Malora Lacy for a variance for the minimum standard specifications of the exterior lot set back and rear yard for property at 202 Tarbutton Street. The council was not able to take any action on the item because the title remains in the name of Ms. Lacy's deceased uncle and no paperwork has been filed with the county for change of ownership. The council advised Ms. Lacy to contact the county for direction on what was necessary for that procedure. Once the title is in her name she is free to come back to the council with her request.

There was a correction made to remarks made by the City Administrator Russ Obar during the May 22 council meeting concerning the location of a future park. The correct location is the southeast corner of South Georgia and East Calvert. Other discussion continued about Hal Maris speaking with a property owner about the city acquiring additional land to ex- pand the use of the parkland. Obar was directed to give Maris the go ahead.

During the comments and input item, Councilman Jeff Hale asked Obar to pursue the possibility of permits or bonds being necessary for the drilling of oil and gas in the city. These permits or bonds would help to pay for any damage done by crews and their equipment to the city's roads and other property. The council concurred and asked Obar to look into the logistics of such action.
