LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Editor,

I have been involved with Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1799 for many years. The past year as Commander of the Post, the highlight of my service the past year has been the generosity of the business community, the general public of Tyler, Whitehouse, Smith County and members of the VFW Post 1799.

In 2006 members of the VFW Post 1799 adapted a Marine unit in Iraq. In the past 12 months we have shipped over 600 pounds of care packages and over $1,700 in Body Armor underwear to our adapted Marine unit in Iraq. We have donated to the Fisher House, Hospice of Texas, VA Hospital, POWMIA Fund, Back to School Supplies for the local area families of veterans and troops in need.

Without the support of the business community, residents of Smith County and members of the Post we could not have made the donations of the past year. One June 9 we celebrated Flag Day and the community came through again, We raised over $2,000 that will be distributed to the troops and their families in need.

On July 1 newly elected Commander Nathan J. Neeley and newly elected staff will assume leadership of VFW Post 1799. I can assure you that the new leadership team will continue to be an asset to Smith County and the surrounding area.

As I leave office, I thank the business community and residents of the local area and the members of the VFW Post 1799 for their great support in the past and ask for your support of the new leadership team and our veterans and our troops and their families.

Commander Fred Lancaster

VFW, Post 1799 Rhones Quarter Road

Editor,

To the folks of Whitehouse:

Our hats are off with apology. Due to a death our group's family we, "The Texicans," were unable to perform at the Whitehouse YesterYear festivities this 23 June 2007.

We hope that everyone can and will forgive us for this misfortune. We would be more than pleased to be able to perform at next year's gathering.

Thank you and deepest regret,

Muddy Waters "The Texicans"
