Whitehouse chamber holds quarterly meeting

Chamber members view ideas for store-front themes for a designated downtown at Tuesday's Chamber meeting.
Members of the Greater Whitehouse Area Chamber of Commerce met Tuesday for their quarterly meeting. They shared a pizza lunch provided by Rep. Leo Berman.

Chamber president Brent Conaway reviewed the activities of the past few months including the first business expo. Conaway invited members to visit the chamber's updated website at www.whitehousetx.com and watch as this site grows.

Mike Peterson, Community Development Director for the city of Whitehouse gave a presentation on choosing a theme for the newly designated "downtown" area of Whitehouse. This area is outlined in the Vision 2020 plan completed in 2006.

Ideas from other cities have been discussed by citizens as well as business owners along the designated area. They range from turn of the century Victorian to modern brick structures. During recent Planning and Zoning meetings, as many as 68 property owners have been present with input and questions.

"That's what we want," said Peterson. "We want the input of those who this will impact the most."

With the widening of FM 346, this is the ideal time to make such decision and changes. "This will set the tone for the rest of the town's construction," said Peterson.
