Flood damage effects linger While the flood waters have subsided in most areas, some Smith County residents are still dealing with the inconvenience of road and bridge damage. According to County Commissioner Bill McGinnis, the washed-out bridge on County Road 2180, Yarbrough Lane, remains as is until FEMA crews come to the scene to survey the damage and make their assessment. McGinnis says they hope that will be sometime next week. "New culverts have been or- dered," McGinnis said. "But even if we had them today, repairs cannot start until FEMA comes and surveys the damage." Also on the list of area road damage due to the flooding is CR 2125, Moser Lane, where the pavement has been washed completely off of the roadway. On CR 2276, Pleasant Hill Road, the new culvert has been installed and crews will begin on the other side of the road soon. McGinnis' report included other county projects. Troup's Justice of the Peace office is also receiving an expansion and facelift. "The concrete should be poured next week," McGinnis said. "The expansion will include more courtroom area and better facilities for all the offices." |
