Wildcat Fish Camp Aug. 16

If you have a son or daughter who will be entering Whitehouse High School as a freshman, or you have a new student entering Whitehouse High School for the first time, the Wildcat Fish Camp is for you.

In order to make your child's transition to high school a smooth one, your son or daughter is invited to the annual event on Thursday, Aug. 16 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the high school cafeteria.

"We are asking all incoming ninth graders, or new students entering Whitehouse High School for the first time to join us for a time of games, food, and learning about the high school experience," said Missy Gamble, assistant principal.

"The fear of the unknown is one of the biggest challenges freshmen face as they enter high school. We hope this program will help to educate these students as to what is expected of them and what they can expect from high school," she said.

Utilizing a creative "summer camp" type atmosphere, the fish camp goal is to help incoming freshmen and new students develop a sense of belonging at the high school campus. Students will get to work one-on-one with high school faculty, upperclassmen and administrators to make "connections" that will make their entrance into high school much less intimidating.

All parents of fish camp participants are asked to join the group at 2 p.m. in the high school cafeteria for a tour of the high school facility.

The deadline for registration is July 27. Students not registered by that time will not receive a fish camp T-Shirt.

Parents can register their child by calling 903-839-5551. Although the camp is free, registration is important in order to help WHS staff better prepare for lunch and prizes.
