Higgins Pre-K, Head Start registration Aug. 1-2

Pre-kindergarten and Head Start registration at Higgins Intermediate School will be 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1-2.

Children must be four years old by Sept. 1, 2007 and a resident of the Whitehouse Independent School District in order to apply for the WISD Pre-K program.

Children must meet one of the eligibility requirements below to attend the WISD Pre-Kindergarten program:

-- Eligibility for the Federal Government's Free and Reduced Lunch Program, or

-- Eligibility for the English as a Second Language Program (ESL), or

-- Student designated as homeless, or

-- Children of an active duty member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reser ved component of the armed forces, who is ordered to active duty by proper authority, or

-- Children of a member of the armed forces of the United States, including the state military forces or a reserve component of the armed forces, injured or killed while serving on active duty, or

-- Foster Child, or

-- Child is or ever has been in the conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services.

The following items will be necessar y to enroll at Whitehouse ISD:

-- proof of residency within the WISD (utility bill or water bill);

-- copy of property tax statement indicating home ownership (if applicable);

-- rental or lease agreement, with all occupants listed (if applicable);

-- the child's immunization record;

-- the child's birth certificate

-- the child's social security card;

-- drivers license of Parent/ Guardian enrolling the student;

-- any other legal documents, such as a divorce decree should also be presented at the time of registration;

Children eligible based on Federal Government's Free and Reduced Lunch Program criteria will need to bring current proof of income for all wage earners in the household within the last two months.

Children eligible based on military service will need to bring proof of military status of parent/guardian.

Foster parents will need to bring conservator documents.

Children that have been in conservatorship of the Department of Family and Protective Services will need to bring documents from the adversary hearing held as provided by Section 262.201, Family Code.

Any parent/guardian that registered a child in early April must return with current proof of income and any missing documents. You will also complete a Free and Reduced Lunch Application at this time. Your child will not be enrolled in PreKindergarten until all paperwork is complete and returned to the school.
