ET Longhorns compete in USFA world series

Head coach Robert Gray of Whitehouse and assistant David Hodges of Carthage led the ET Longhorns to a world series appearance.
East Texas Longhorns 10-U select softball team lost the championship game in the USFA "B" world series to Causin Panic from Arkansas, 5-2, but regrouped and defeated the champs 12-2 in the "IF game." Forty teams from across the United States traveled to Panama City Beach, Fla., for the competition.

Lead hitters in the series were Micah Gray, .450, 8 RBI; Kylee Stanley, .450, 7 RBI; Kaylee Hendricks, .428, 7 RBI; and Morgan Downs, .409, 5 RBI. Pitchers for the tourney were Jaci Cullins, 1.16 ERA, and Kaylee Hendricks, 1.94 ERA.

The girls worked hard to qualify for the national tournament, going in as the #1 seed with 2,200 points. Their combined record for fall '06 and spring/summer '07 was 115-15, including two state titles.

Other members of the Whitehouse-based team are Madison Goforth, Madison Smith, Ashleigh Gillard, Melea Roberts, Chynna Usrey, Kasadi Hodges and Caroline Cullins.
