Community Activities

Parkinsonians of East Texas meeting

Parkinsonians of East Texas will meet Thursday, July 26 at 2 p.m. at East Texas Medical Center Pavilion, 801 Clinic Dr., Tyler. The speaker will be therapist Lynn Henry Parking who will talk about fall prevention. Parking is free for the meeting.

Game Time for Seniors

Game Time for Senior Citizens will be Wednesday, Aug. 1 from 1-3 p.m. at the Troup library. All senior citizens are welcome to attend.

East Texas writers to meet

The East Texas Writers Guild will meet Monday, Aug. 6 at The Texas Book Store in Bullard. The business meeting is at 6:30 p.m. and the program will start at 7 p.m. Speaker John Foxjohn will discuss "Eight Steps to Murdering your Manuscript with out Conviction". ETWG meetings are open to published and aspiring writers of every genre on the first Monday of every month except on holidays when meetings will be on the second Monday. The Texas Store is located at 51559 Highway69 in Bullard.

VFW Post 1799 open daily

VFW Post 1799 on Rhone Quarter Road opens daily at 2:30 p.m. for members and guests. Each day offers a different activity such as competitive pool, karaoke and social hour. For information visit WWW.vfw1799.org or call 903-561-3501.

Whitehouse Recycle Center hours

The Whitehouse Recycle Center is open every Wednesday 7-10 a.m. and 3:30-5 p.m. as well as the first and third Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Bring your recyclable paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. The Recycle Center is located on Railroad Ave.

Whitehouse library activities

Sail Away With Books, the Texas Summer Reading Club, meets every Wednesday at the Whitehouse Community Library. Sailors, age 3-6, meet 9:30-10:15 a.m. First Mates, age 7- 10, meet 10:30-11:15 a.m. Captains, age 11-14, meet 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.

Weight loss support group meets Mondays

The Eat Right For Life Support Group meets every Monday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the meeting room of the Regions Bank in Whitehouse (across from the Post Office). Meetings are free. For more information, call 903-839-7634.

Karing Kitchen

The Karing Kitchen offers free hot meals to anyone in need on Monday evenings from 6-7 p.m. The Karing Kitchen is sponsored by five Tyler Churches of Christ and is located at 420 W. Erwin in the fellowship building of West Erwin Church of Christ. For information, call 903-592-0809.

Troup American Legion hosts karaoke

Troup American Legion Post 418 has karaoke every Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
