TMA offers First Friday Art Tour

TYLER -- Stephen Vollmer, guest curator for Tyler Museum of Art's current exhibition, "Past/Present/Future: Folk Art of Mexico, Selected Works from the Laura and Dan Boeckman Collection," will be the featured speaker at the First Friday Art Tour, set for Aug. 3 at 11 a.m. Vollmer will discuss various textiles, masks and carved wooden figures that are significant parts of the collection.

Reservations are required for the event and can be made by calling (903)595-1001. Admission to the special tour is free for TMA members plus one guest, and $3 for non-members.

The Boeckman Collection is considered one of the nation's premiere collections of modern and contemporary Mexican and Latin American art. The Boeckmans compiled the collection during many trips to various Central and South American locales.

While their entire collection consists of more than 700 pieces, only about 80 works are being shown at one time at the TMA due to limited space.
