WHS cheerleaders earn national bids
      The varsity, junior varsity and freshman squads of Whitehouse High School cheerleaders returned home with national championship competition bids in their bags. The teams recently attended a National Cheerleaders Association camp on the Southern Methodist University campus.

      The East Texas Longhorns 10-and-under select softball team traveled to Panama City Beach, Fla., July 8-14 to compete in the USFA "B" World Series. There were 40 teams from all over the United States competing for the World Series crown.

      First place finishers in the Tuesday senior scramble, July 24, were Andy Griffin, Stan Wilkinson, Rex Ferrell, Jack Gowen and Tommy Parrott, shooting six under par. Gerald Shields, Morris Crymes, Jake Florence and Jack Harris made up the second place team, finishing with five under par.
