Market celebrates decade in business
BY CAITLIN GIDDENS Contributing reporter

Celebrating its 10th year in business, The Market has undergone quite a transformation over the past few months. Owner David Minnix has redone the exterior and added a deck, as well as enhancing the menu and deli items.
For the freshest meats and sweetest treats, Whitehouse has gone to The Market for years ... 10 years to be exact.

In celebration of The Market's 10-year anniversary, David Minnix plans to have a grand reopening during the football season.

"Whenever we took over The Market three years ago, we decided we didn't want to change too much because Mr. Barnes was pretty successful," Minnix said. "We kept the things that Whitehouse is used to like fresh produce and exterior furniture. But we also remodeled by adding a new deck, painting inside and outside and getting new floors."

After the remodeling, he focused on the menu,

"We've added about 15 different items since we've been here," Minnix said. "Now we use Boar's Head meats and cheeses. I remember growing up in Houston, Boar's Head was the best you could get."

Minnix said he is also looking forward to other changes.

"Hopefully around Christmas we'll start having later hours so we can cater to evening meals," Minnix said. "We want to expand the kitchen since it used to be just a little gas station. Then start serving steaks and burgers at night."

The Market has a reputation of offering the best products in the area, and maintaining that image requires dedication.

"I go to the Farmer's Market a couple of times a week really early in the morning," Minnix said. "And I choose every item myself, nothing is ever delivered.

"We have a saying here that if it's at The Market, it has to be the best."
