Tigers welcome new coach

Troup's Lady Tigers hope to improve on last year's 4-8 district record. The team has a new head coach in East Texas Baptist University grad Arden Johnson, assisted by Lisa Sandoval and Rita Salinas.

Scrimmages are scheduled this Friday and Saturday against Henderson and Sabine. Both scrimmages are away, and times were not available at press time.

The Henderson matchup will feature freshman, junior varsity and varsity. Only JV and varsity will compete at Sabine.

The season opens Aug. 17 with a home contest against Grace. The JV plays at 5 p.m., followed by varsity.

Key returning players from last year include all-disrict honorable mention Janna Ross and MVP server Alysha Barton.

At outside hitter and middle blocker, Ross had 59 aces, 289 service points, 25 blocks, 72 digs, and 231 kills. Barton had 35 aces and 376 service points, as well as 516 assists.
