TYA to elect officers The Troup Youth Association will be having a general meeting to elect officers for the 2007-2008 season on Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. at the Troup baseball complex. Parkinsonians of East Texas meeting Parkinsonians of East Texas will meet Thursday, Aug. 23 at 2 p.m. at East Texas Medical Center Pavilion, 801 Clinic Dr., Tyler. The speaker will be therapist Lynn Henry Parking who will talk about fall prevention. Parking is free for the meeting. Salad luncheon set at Troup library The public is invited to attend a salad and dessert luncheon on Sunday, Aug. 26 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cameron-J. Jarvis Troup Municipal Library. This is a fundraising event for Friends of the Library as well as the Troup Genealogy and Historical Society to help with the expense of the publishing of an upcoming book, The History of Troup. Tickets are available at the library, Steele's Feed and Seed or members of these groups. VFW Post 1799 open daily VFW Post 1799 on Rhone Quarter Road opens daily at 2:30 p.m. for members and guests. Whitehouse Recycle Center hours The Whitehouse Recycle Center is open every Wednesday 7-10 a.m. and 3:30-5 p.m. as well as the first and third Saturday 8 a.m. to noon. Bring your recyclable paper, newspaper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans and tin cans. The Recycle Center is located on Railroad Ave. Whitehouse library activities Regular library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11-4. Troup American Legion hosts karaoke Troup American Legion Post 418 has karaoke every Saturday night from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m. Church Activities Back to school bash set The Lighthouse of Prayer Ministries in Troup is sponsoring a Back to School Bash on Saturday, Aug. 18 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Troup Library. They will be giving away FREE school supplies and refreshments. Also, guest speakers from various career fields will be on hand to encourage and motivate the children for the upcoming school year. FBC hosts community block party The First Baptist Church of Whitehouse will host the second annual community block party on Sunday, Aug. 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. on the lawn of the church at 801 E. Main. Come and enjoy live music, free food, school supply giveaways and fun for the whole family. School Activities Troup HS freshman orientation set Freshman orientation is Aug. 17 at 2 p.m. at Troup High School. There will be a parent meeting for incoming freshmen following at 5 p.m. Troup HS class schedules Class schedule pick up is set for Aug. 21 from 3-7 p.m. at Troup High School. Parents are encouraged to attend to fill out paperwork. Troup Elem sets 'Meet the Teacher' Troup Elementary will have "Meet the Teacher" on Friday, Aug. 24 from 3:30-5 p.m. Teachers and class lists will be posted at the K-2 building and the Intermediate building (3rd-5th). |
