Proposed tax rate promises savings The budget workshop section of the Whitehouse ISD board of trustees yielded a date set for the public meeting to discuss budget and proposed tax rate. That meeting will be Monday, Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m. in the Wildcat Annex at 109 Wildcat Dr. The proposed tax rate approved for publication is $1.20. This is a decrease of 0.245 cents from last year's rate of $1.445. This will reduce the taxes on the average residence in WISD by $245. See page 3B for more details within the public notice. Within the reports of the superintendent was approval of the student code of conduct for the 2007-2008 school year. This document's contents saw few changes from the existing code. Approval was given for an out of state trip for the First Ladies drill team in February of 2008. Trustees also approved a revision to LOCAL Policy FNA. This revision comes as a result of the passage of HB 3678 by the Texas Legislature concerning a student's voluntary expression of a religious viewpoint. Pat Richard, principal of the AIM Center, spoke to the trustees about the success of the REACH program on her campus and the programs in place to continue the encouragement of all the students who come there. Following an executive session, new personnel to the district were announced. Meredith Allen will join the Higgins faculty. Lynn Perryman was hired at Holloway. Lauren Rhodes will teach at the junior high, and Tim Maschal will join ranks at the high school. Trustees can expect an update at the next regular board meeting in September from Population and Survey Analysts of College Station concerning the upcoming realignment of campuses with the completion of the new elementary school. A special meeting for purpose of final discussion and adoption of the budget and tax rate is set for Monday, Aug. 27 at 5:30 p.m. |
