Eighth year on horizon for WWCL

The Whitehouse Women's Civic League is beginning its eighth year of service to the community of Whitehouse.

Their first gathering will be just for fun and fellowship to wind down from the summer and get geared up for the fall. Current and former members are invited as well as any women who just want to see what it's all about.

They will meet on Thursday, Aug. 30 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm at the home of Theresa Nink, 10500 CR 2180. This is Yarbrough Lane, off of FM 344. Call Theresa at 903-871-2774 for the best route to her home.

The get-together will be poolside, so feel free to swim or just soak your toes.

Here are just a few of their community projects:

· Thanksgiving dinners for families in need and stocking their pantry

· Christmas dinners for families in need and furnishing gifts from Santa

· Making and taking Valentines for the senior residents of Oakbrook Nursing Home

· Annual egg hunt at City Park on the Saturday before Palm Sunday

· Movie in the Park +

· float in the Christmas parade

· various projects for the Meals on Wheels recipients

The WWCL meets the first Monday of each month except during Januar y (time to recover from the holidays), June and July.

The September meeting is always the second Monday due to Labor Day.

For those ladies who enjoy community involvement, making new friends, visiting with old ones and of course eating, grab a friend and meet with the WWCL for a night of fun.
