Whitehouse grads earn scholarships Three Whitehouse High School graduates have been awarded scholarships by the Texas Interscholastic League Foundation. Brian Keith Crawford received a Southwest Emblem Company Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, payable $500 each semester of the first year. This year the Southwest Emblem Company awarded a total of five grants to students who have participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and who have compiled an outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement. Crawford competed in computer science at the 2007 UIL Academic State Meet where he finished fourth overall and was a member of the second place team. He also participated in UIL cross examination debate, Lincoln-Douglas Debate, science, mathematics and number sense throughout his high school career. He is the son of Roy and Elaine Crawford. Crawford plans to attend Texas A&M University-College Station and major in aeronautical engineering. Caitlan Danielle Bartle received a Houston Endowment Inc. Scholarship in the amount of $1,000, payable $500 each semester for the first year. This year the Houston Endowment awarded a total of 20 grants to students who have participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and who have compiled an outstanding record of academic and extracurricular achievement. Bartle competed in headline writing and finished first in editorial writing at the 2007 UIL Academic State Meet. She also participated in UIL spelling and vocabulary, ready writing and accounting throughout her high school career. She is the daughter of Kayla and David Bartle. Bartle plans to attend Tyler Jr. College and major in biology. Britt Matthew Martin received a Welch Foundation Scholarship in the amount of $14,000, payable over four years. This year the Welch Foundation awarded a total of 20 grants to students who have participated in the University Interscholastic League Academic State Meet and who plan to major in chemistry, biochemistry or chemical engineering. Martin competed in social studies at the 2007 UIL Academic State Meet. He also participated in UIL science, number sense and basketball throughout his high school career. He is the son of Stan and Mary Martin. Martin plans to attend Texas A&M University-College Station and major in chemical engineering. This year the TILF awarded 377 new awards and will renew approximately 275 awards for a total of more than 600 scholarships for 2007-08, with value of over $1 million. |
