Oscar Jeremiah "O.J." Helms Jr.

Services for Oscar Jeremiah "O.J." Helms Jr., 72, of Tyler were held Aug. 20 at Burks Walker Tippit Funeral Directors chapel, Tyler, with the Rev. C.L. Taylor officiating.

Burial was in Liberty Hill Cemetery.

Mr. Helms died Aug. 16, 2007 in Tyler.

He was born Nov. 4, 1934 in Tyler to the late Oscar Sr. and Mary K. Helms and was a lifelong resident. He was a self-employed commercial contractor and a member of Harvest Time Church. He was preceded in death by brothers Clyde Helms and an infant brother, and sister Ruth Bellemy Hood.

Survivors include sons, Brian Helms, Whitehouse, and Jay Helms, Canton; daughters, Daphne Aaron, Flint, Camille Smith, Whitehouse, and Kae Helms, Dallas; brothers, William Helms, Kilgore, Ernie Helms, Coffee City, Raymond Helms and Darrell Helms, both of Tyler, and James Helms, Palestine; sister, Patricia Lassiter, Lindale; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were William Helms, Ernie Helms, Raymond Helms, Darrell Helms, James Helms and Bill Helms.
