Rear Admiral Frank Thorp, Navy chief of information, administered the oath of office to Lt. Cynthia Moore, promoting her to lieutenant commander. The ceremony was held at the Pentagon.
Lt. Commander Moore grew up in Athens and is the daughter of Marsha and Fred Head. Her daughter, Clara Love, is a senior at Athens High School and daughter Katie Love is a sophomore at the University of Texas at Austin.
Lt. Commander Moore has 12 years of service with the U.S. Navy and was deployed for one year with an 11-month tour of duty in Afghanistan in 2005, serving as public affairs officer in Kabul, where she reported by electronic and print media and appeared on major U.S. television networks.
