WH freshmen win home opener

The Whitehouse freshmen opened the season last Thursday with a convincing 39-0 win over the visiting Jackrabbits from Forney.

The win was even more impressive knowing that Forney had only suffered one loss the prior year in eighth grade.

The Wildcats would get on the board in the first quarter compliments of its defense as Ryan Ralson would pick off an errant pass and race in for the score, and Johnathan Parker's extra point attempt would give Whitehouse the early 7-0 lead.

After forcing a three-and-out series on Forney's next possession, the Wildcats would get their offense going behind the ground game of running back Shundrick Beasley who would break down the sideline on a 40- yard run to the Jackrabbit 22- yard line.

QB Conner Cashion would then do the rest of the legwork by scrambling 11 yards to the 10-yard line. Cashion would then keep on the option to the 1-yard line and then plunge over for the score. Parker's PAT would give the Cats a 14-0 lead.

The Wildcats' special teams would play a big part in the next score as a blocked punt on Forney's next possession would set up good field position at the Forney 20-yard line.

Cashion would waste little time getting the score as he found Ryan Speake down the middle for a 20-yard touchdown strike pushing the lead to 20-0.

The Wildcat defense, which would only allow five first downs on the night, would force another three and out, and then the Cats would get the ball back on their own 47-yard line.

Beasley and Cashion would again go to work on the ground leading to a 27-yard touchdown pass from Cashion to Logan Newton to extend the lead to 26-0 at the half.

The second half would continue to show the Wildcats' dominance on defense, and Garrett Clark would produce a score when he picked up a fumble from his linebacker position and returned it down the sideline to make the score 32- 0.

Ralson's second interception of the night would lead to a 20- yard touchdown run by Beasley, and Parker's PAT would end the scoring at 39-0.

The freshmen will travel to Sulphur Springs tonight to tackle the Wildcats in their first road game of the year. The "B" game will kick-off around 4 p.m. with the "A" game immediately to follow.
