Auxiliary group provides supplies for children
American Legion ladies are veterans at investing in their community

Delivering school supplies to Troup Elementary School are President Becky Mathis and Education Chairman Shirley Mathis.
The American Legion Auxiliary in Troup decided that they needed to do something for the children in their community. Becky Mathis contacted Melanie Johnson at the elementary and told her that the Auxiliary had collected crayons, watercolor sets, a large assort- ment of scissors, including lefty and righty training scissors, rulers, including metric, slide rules, index cards, notebook paper, spiral notebooks, folders, pens, pencils, highlighters, erasers, glue sticks, dividers, music staff liners, classroom pendants, a large assortment of reading awards and certificates, toothbrushes, toothpaste, dental floss, Ziploc bags and boxes of Kleenex. The Auxiliary also donated 480 U.S. flags.

Becky Mathis stated that the Auxiliary is much more than the name implies. The organization has achieved its own unique identity while working side-byside with the veterans who belong to The American Legion.

Like the Legion, the Auxiliar y's interests have broadened to encompass the entire community. Through its units located all around Texas, the Auxiliary embodies the spirit of America that has prevailed through war and peace.

The programs are Americanism, Community Service, Education, National Security, Veterans Affairs and Rehabilitation, Leadership, Public Relations, Girls State, Auxiliary Emergency Fund, Poppy, Cancer Research, Support for Women Veterans and the Junior Program.

All eligible women are welcome to join the group. Take this opportunity to share the joy, and the rewards of doing something good for yourself and the community.
