City of Troup completes budget process
BY SUZANNE LOUDAMY Staff writer

During the latest special called meeting, the Troup City Council completed the annual process of approving a budget and tax rate for the city's operation for FY-08. They approved the tax rate of 71.8018 cents/$100 evaluation.

This tax rate is a decrease of 1.2611 cents/$100 evaluation or a 1.726% decrease. The rate will decrease the taxes on an average residence homestead which is $52,388 by approximately $6.61 as compared to the tax rate adopted in FY-07.

Discussion continued concerning the proposed Joey subdivision. The developer is interested in having the property voluntarily annexed and bringing on city services to the homes being built there.

The city still has questions concerning cost and precedents for this situation in the past. The council asked for more research before the item appears on the agenda again.

Two other items went untouched on the agenda due to the absence of the property owners.

One was a request from the property owner at 902 E. Bryant to establish a temporary residence on the property. City Administrator Russ Obar said the there was some question about the ownership of the property and the person making the request was not present.

The other item was relating to the plan for the subdivision proposed for the SE corner of East Magnolia and South Georgia streets. That individual was not present and the item was not discussed.
