TCDC approves 2 projects Public hearings were conducted on two major projects proposed to the Troup Community Development Corporation last week. Following the public hearings, both matters were approved by the group during their business meeting. The first item was to fund one half of the City of Troup's participation in the SCAD joint mapping project in an amount not to exceed $2000. "This project is being conducted jointly with the Smith County Appraisal District, 911, Smith County and the cities," said TCDC president Gene Cottle. "It will be a great resource for our city." The second item on the agenda for approval following the public hearing was to fund a major sewer project in the amount of $22,432. "This project was completed to bring city services to an area of Troup that is experiencing growth and expansion," said City Administrator Russ Obar. "It not only brought sewer to the new Sonic, but it also gave the upgrade potential for new development to the north and northwest end of town." Along with approval of both of these items came reports, consideration for future projects for the Corporation as well as approval for the FY 2007-2008 budget. The Troup Community Development Corporation was chartered as a non-profit corporation in April of 2000, following the adoption of a half-cent sales tax for economic development in a city-wide election. As the city grows and generates more sales tax, the funds increase and are invested back into the city. Projects that the Corporation has reinvested in have ranged from street paving to drainage as well as signs marking the entrance into the city. |
