McMullen earns state honor

Dan McMullen
Dan McMullen, assistant principal of Whitehouse High School, has been selected to represent the Texas Association of Secondary School Principals as a Region VII Outstanding Assistant Principal of the Year.

TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the 20 region Education Service Centers in the state.

School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions. Nominations are based on exemplary performance and outstanding leadership. As a Region VII winner, McMullen is eligible to compete for the state title of the Texas Assistant Principal of the Year.

McMullen, an eight-year assistant principal, has been a part of the leadership team at Whitehouse High School since 2001.

He attended the University of Texas at Tyler and earned a Bachelor of Science degree. He attended the University of Texas at Tyler and was awarded a Master of Education in the Principalship Program and went on to earn a superintendent certificate.

McMullen sees himself as being a risk taker, a visionary and leader of learners. He is credited with numerous achievements including being a member of the U.S. Air Force Reserves for 10 years. "As a leader, one has to be a great communicator with a clear vision, above the people but part of the people, and adhere to high ethical and moral standards," said McMullen.

Each of the region winners will be recognized during the opening general session of the annual TASSP Summer Workshop, June 11 - 13, at the Austin Convention Center. They will be presented and recognized in a commemorative booklet titled Texas Principals, Texas Heroes.
