Freshman drop 2 in Sulphur Springs The Whitehouse freshman teams lost both games last Thursday in Sulphur Springs. The "B' team fell 21-10 while the "A" team suffered a 29-14 loss. In the "A" game, the Wildcats got on the board early as QB Conner Cashion completed his first two passes of the game. The first pass was to Terrance Franklin for 20 yards and the second was to Logan Newton for 50 yards for the score. The PAT by Johnathan Parker gave the Cats an early 7-0 lead. The Wildcats were back on the march on their second possession as Cashion hit Franklin again for a 20-yard gain followed by Shundrick Beasley's 15-yard run to the 20- yard line. However, Sulphur Springs then forced a fumble to end the Wildcat drive and started a drive of its own that ended in a 5-yard TD run to knot the score at 7-7. Whitehouse suffered dropped passes in the second quarter that ended a drive deep in its own territory and forced a punt which was taken advantage of by Sulphur Springs as they moved down inside the 10-yard line and picked up a one-yard TD run to take a 14-7 lead. Whitehouse got back in the game right before the half with a 25-yard TD connection to Newton, and the PAT by Parker tied things up at 14 going into the half. The second half for the Wildcats was not as good as Sulphur Springs' quarterback threw for a 90-yard TD pass to take the lead back 21-14 at the 4:42 mark in the third quarter. The hometown team scored again in the final quarter on a 25-yard TD pass, and the two point conversion built a 29-14 lead that Whitehouse could not overcome as several questionable penalties and dropped passes haunted the Wildcats throughout the second half. This loss was the first ever suffered by this group of Wildcats. Their season record is now 1-1 as they head into tonight's home game against Mabank. |
