AARP driver safety course set in Troup An AARP driver safety course will be offered on Wednesday, Sept. 26 and Thursday, Sept. 27 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The course is sponsored by First United Methodist Church in Troup. Parkinsonians of East Texas meeting Parkinsonians of East Texas will meet Thursday, Sept. 27 at 2 p.m. at East Texas Medical Center Pavilion, 801 Clinic Dr., Tyler. The speaker will be Mark Sullivan of Good's Pharmacy. His topic will be comparing over-the-counter drugs with prescription drugs for Parkinson patients. Parking is free for the meeting. Clean Whitehouse Day is Oct. 6 The semi-annual Clean Whitehouse Day will be Saturday, Oct. 6 from 8 a.m. until noon at the Recycle Center on Railroad Avenue. Please, no wet paint, household trash, batteries or yard waste. WH Recycle Center temporarily closed The Whitehouse Recycle Center has been closed due to a fire at the city utility barn. Everyday recyclable items such as paper, plastic, glass and aluminum can be taken to the Tyler recycle center located at 418 N. Bois D'Arc. Whitehouse library activities The Great Big Book Sale is coming Sept. 21-22. The sneak preview for the sale is Thursday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m. A $5 ticket gets you in the door and a light snack. Story time is every Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Regular library hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday noon to 6 p.m. and Saturday 11- 4. Questions? Church Activities New St. Matthew church honors anniversary The pastor and members of the New St. Matthew Missionary Baptist Church cordially invite the public to come and worship during the 4th Annual Church Anniversary service on Sunday, Oct. 7 at 3 p.m. Special guest for this joyful celebration will be the Rev. J. Williams, pastor of the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in White Oak. The New St. Mattew Missionary Baptist Church is located on Hwy. 110 north of Whitehouse. School Activities WJHS holds Meet the Teacher Whitehouse Junior High will hold a Meet the Teacher event on Thursday, Sept. 20, 6-7:30 p.m. Parents are to meet in the gym at 6 p.m. for a brief meeting and instructions. WH athletic boosters to meet The Whitehouse Athletic Booster Club will meet Monday, Sept. 24 at 7 p.m. in the commons area of the high school. WHS cheer clinic coming The WHS cheerleading squads will hold a cheerleading clinic for all future Wildcat cheerleaders on Saturday, Sept. 22 at the high school gym from 5:30-9 p.m. This event is for those in kindergarten through sixth grade. A $25 fee covers the clinic, games, snacks, photo with Willie the Wildcat, a T-shirt and free admission to the WHS vs Kilgore varsity football game where students will have the opportunity to cheer with the varsity cheerleaders.
