JV tames Panthers The Whitehouse JV continued its solid play early in the season with a 35-7 win over the Mabank Panthers at Wildcat Stadium last week. The Wildcats wasted little time getting on the board as QB Preston Conder hit Kevin Hickman with a quick pass on the second play from scrimmage. Hickman followed his blocks and burst into the secondary for a 52-yard score to put Whitehouse on top, 6-0. The Cats then recovered an onside kick, but the drive stalled at the Panther 27. The Wildcat defense came up big on Mabank's next possession and forced a missed field goal at the Wildcat 35. Chad Lewis started the next Wildcat drive out with a big third down run to the Mabank 49-yard line before Conder hit Garrett Ehrman deep down to the Mabank 6. Lewis would take it the rest of the way on a 6-yard run, and Julio Aleman's PAT would give the Cats a 13-0 lead. Mabank got on the board on its next drive with a long pass leading to a 3-yard TD run to cut the lead to 13-7. The Wildcat offense found itself to be its biggest enemy in the second quarter as two turnovers stopped two different scoring drives. However, the Wildcat defense continued to shut down Mabank. Cornerback Chris Smith picked off an errant pass to give the offense a chance to score again before the half. After Conder hooked up again with Ehrman down to the Panther 12-yard line, Lewis carried down to the two where Conder ran it in for the score, and with Lewis getting the 2 point conversion, Whitehouse extended its lead to 21-7 at the half. The second half remained much the same as the first as the defense continued to be stingy with Mabank. Late in the third quarter, Lewis took a swing pass from Conder, and 35 yards later was knocked out of bounds at the Mabank 25. Conder finished the drive with a 2-yard run to push the lead to 28-7. The defense came up with one final big play on the night as Tyler Bloom picked off a Panther pass and ran along the sideline before he was tackled at the Mabank 17. The short field was taken advantage of as Conder eventually got the final score of the night on another 2-yard run, and the PAT would end the scoring at 35-7. The win moved the JV's record to 3-0 for the year going into the team's off week headed into the district opener next week at Kilgore.
