Junior high 'A' teams post wins The Wildcat junior high teams began their season last week playing Mabank. Last Tuesday, the seventh grade teams traveled to Mabank to take on the Panthers. The "B" team lost to the Panthers, 18-0, and the "A" team posted an impressive 20-0 win on the road. In the "A" game, Dylan Cantrell took a toss on the second play of the game and scampered 65 yards to pay dirt, and Michael Nuon converted the two point conversion for an early 8-0 lead. The second quarter was highlighted by an interception returned by LB Derek Clemons for 28 yards and QB Reid Hiler's 10-yard TD run. The Wildcat defense proved to be too much for the Panthers in the second half as Cantrell and Hiler picked off errant passes. The special teams also played a part in the second half as Kyle Battles blocked a punt. Cantrell would end the scoring on the night with a 15-yard run. The eighth grade was in action last Thursday night at Wildcat Stadium playing host to Mabank. The "B" team suffered a tough 6-0 loss while the "A" team posted a 40-24 win over the Panthers. The scoring for the "A" team started in the first quarter on a 26- yard TD run by Gunnar Dorsey and a 65-yard TD completion from Hunter Taylor to Jonathan Aldridge. Dorsey picked up his second score of the night on a 2-yard run in the second quarter, and Taylor again connected to Aldridge, this time on a 34-yard TD pass. In the second half, Dorsey had TD runs of 24 yards and one yard, and A.J. Minter picked up one two-point conversion on a run and hit Ross Viergever on another. The seventh grade teams will play Jacksonville at home on Tuesday night at 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. while the eighth grade teams will play host to the Kilgore Bulldogs next Thursday. |
