WH hosting public hearing on jail project

The Smith County Commissioners Court will hold a special evening public hearing in Whitehouse to seek input from the citizens of Precinct #2 on the Smith County Jail Project. The meeting is set for Tuesday, Oct. 2 at 6 p.m. in the Whitehouse City Council Chambers, 311 E. Main St. Whitehouse, Texas.

A comprehensive presentation by HDR Architecture Inc., detailing the factors and costs involved with the proposed new jail facility, will be the focus of the public hearing. Following the presentation, commissioners and representatives from HDR will answer questions and discuss the proposal with citizens in an informal one-on-one setting

The court will then ask the public attending to select their favorite design from several different conceptual drawings of the proposed facilities.

"It's very important that we hear from our citizens concerning the jail project," said Bill McGinnis, Pct. #2 county commissioner. "This is an opportunity for our citizens to ask questions and get detailed answers."

Early voting for the jail bond election begins Oct. 22 and ends Nov. 2. Election Day is Nov. 6.
