JV wins Brownsboro tourney

After picking up district wins at Pine Tree and at home against Henderson, the Ladycat JV traveled to Brownsboro Saturday to play in the Brownsboro Tournament. The Ladycats had an early wake up call at 6 a.m. in order to get to Brownsboro for their first match against Kemp, which they won in two straight games.

The Ladycats then came out flat against Palestine that afternoon but found a way to win the match in two games.

"The girls realized that they did not play well against Palestine, and it is important to them that they not just win but play good doing so," stated Coach Jon Sheppard.

With the two wins, the Ladycats set up a championship match against Kaufman. In the first game, the Ladycats suffered their first loss of the season 22-25, but fought back to win a tough game two by a score of 25-22.

Game three would be a classic as Whitehouse took the early lead, but Kaufman came back to tie the score midway through the game.

The teams then traded points back and forth and the benches got louder to support both teams as the score went to 24-23 in favor of Whitehouse.

"In the timeout before match point, the girls were determined not to lose and stated that they had come too far," said Coach Sheppard. After the time out, the Ladycats took match point to win the championship 25-23 in the deciding game three.

With the win, the JV bolstered its undefeated mark for the season to 19-0 and 6-0 in district play.

Coach Sheppard praised his team after wards for their "heart" and for giving him one of his greatest experiences in his coaching career in how they fought through adversity on Saturday to keep their perfect record intact, but more importantly, how they came together as a team.

The freshman Ladycats brought home the second place trophy in the tournament as they defeated Palestine 25- 10, 25-19 and then defeated Brownsboro 26-24, 25-20 before falling to Kaufman in the championship 25-23, 23-25 and 20-25.
