First Baptist welcomes Magills

First Baptist Church of Whitehouse welcomes Matt and Megan Magill to its 8:30 and 11 a.m. services on Sunday, Oct. 7.

The Magills will present the story of their renewal, "The Sting and the Honey," a personal memoir of their victory over the temptations of this world. The music and lyrics were written by both of them, offering an honest portrayal of their life together and the redeeming love of God.

Growing up in Oklahoma, Matt was accustomed to being a big fish in a small pond. His gifts and love for the spotlight soon landed him in a successful college rock band that toured throughout the Midwest.

Never far from any stage, Matt soon found himself starring opposite his future wife, a Tyler girl with a sharp wit and an unwavering faith in God, in the rock-opera Tommy.

He and Megan moved to New York City to pursue dreams of rock n' roll and musical theatre. But the "Big Apple" soon became a backdrop for change in Matt's life that he never could have expected. Far from the spotlight he began to wrestle with the demon of drugs and self-addiction.

Matt was soon arrested for buying drugs on the city streets -- only one of many sobering experiences that opened his eyes to the reality that his marriage was slipping through his fingers. He'd come face to face with what he now calls "the sting" of conviction.

Soon, however, he came to accept "the honey," or rather, the sweetness of God's Grace in Jesus Christ, who changed their life, renewed their marriage and put songs in their hearts that they now feel called to share with the world.
