Ruth McWhorter

Graveside services for Lillian Ruth McWhorter, 92, of Tyler were held Oct. 3, in the Elkins Cemetery, Omen with John Ashby officiating under direction of Cottle Funeral Home, Troup.

Ms. McWhorter died Sept. 30, 2007 at her residence in Tyler. She was born June 7, 1915 in Sorona, New Mexico to the late Clarence C. and Sarah Ava Page McWhorter.

Ms. McWhorter moved to Tyler from Ft. Worth where she worked for Neiman Marcus as a beautician. She retired from nursing in 1982. She loved the Lord and was a great prayer warrior and a member of Southern Oaks Baptist Church, Tyler.

Ms. McWhorter was preceded in death by two brothers, Louis Frank McWhorter and Donald Eugene McWhorter, and two sisters, Faye Hughes and Thelma Starnes.

Survivors include a sister, Opal Bass of Tyler; nieces and nephews, Roy Hughes of BonWier, Ava Ashby of Tyler, Charlotte Keasler of McKinney, Sybil Kleam of Lindale, Lynn Bass of Whitehouse, and Marilyn Wilson of Tyler; multiple great and great-great nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Roy Hughes, John Ashby, Charles Keasler, Kirk Wilson, Jerry Kleam, Lynn Bass, and Jim McWhorter.
