Ladycats suffer first district loss

Photo/Jim Jackson The Ladycats suffered their first district loss last week against Hallsville, but rebounded for a home win over Kilgore.
The Whitehouse Ladycats went to Hallsville last Tuesday trying to finish the first half of district undefeated but returned home with a stinging defeat at the hands of the hometown Hallsville Ladycats by scores of 16-25, 18-25 and 17-25.

With the loss, the Ladycats finished out the first half of district play with a 6-1 record and possession of second place - one game behind undefeated Hallsville.

Sadie Hilburn led the way with 13 service points including 6 kills. Hilburn was followed by Christine Ford with 10 points including 5 kills, Joanna Blake with 19 assists and 6 points, Jor- dan Knight with 7 points and 7 kills, and Stephanie Alexander with 8 points.

Whitehouse found Hallsville's front line to be too much to handle as they saw many of their attempted kills blocked back over the net.

The Ladycats were able to bounce back last Friday night to defeat Kilgore at home 25-13, 25-17 and 25- 20.

Standouts against Kilgore for the Ladycats were Knight (10 digs, 15 kills and 9 points), Katy Kidwell (8 digs, 6 kills and 16 points), Hilburn (7 digs, 7 kills and 10 points) and Blake (18 assists, 3 digs and 14 points).

With the win over the Lady Bulldogs, the Ladycats moved to 7-1 in district play and 17-7 on the season.

In other volleyball action the Ladycat JV defeated Hallsville (17-25, 25-16, 25- 20) and Kilgore (25-11, 28- 26) while the freshman team lost to Hallsville (25-17, 23-25, 17-25) and defeated Kilgore (25-10, 25-18).

The Ladycats will travel to Jacksonville tomorrow evening with the varsity game starting at 4:30 p.m.
