Seventh-graders play 3 games in Jacksonville The Whitehouse seventh grade football teams traveled to Jacksonville on Sept. 25 and played three games against the Braves. In the "C" game, the Wildcats were led by the "King" connection. In the second quarter, Kaleb King hit Kalen King for a TD pass to put the Cats up 6-0. Then, Kalen got into the end zone in the fourth quarter and was followed by Kaleb's twopoint conversion to give the Wildcats the 14-0 win. In the "B" game, the Wildcats picked up another win over the Braves by the score of 6-0. The Wildcat touchdown came about after the Braves snapped the ball over the punter's head, and Tyler Galpin was able to recover it in Jacksonville territory. After the turnover, DaMarcus Lynch took a pitch from the backfield and went 35 yards for the score and the 6-0 win. That led up to an exciting "A" game that saw the Wildcats score late to pull out a 20-18 win over the Braves. The Wildcats received the early break on a fumble recovery by William Thomas, but the drive ended with a Wildcat turnover on an interception. Whitehouse took the early lead late in the quarter as Dylan Cantrell crossed the goal line for the score, and Reid Hiler then hit Michael Nuon on a pass for the two-point conversion to put the Cats up 8-0. Jacksonville then scored on a 45-yard run, but the two-point conversion failed and the Wildcats took an 8-6 lead into the half. The lead stood through the third quarter, and then Dameyen Sanders extended the Cat lead with a 25-yard TD run to push the score to 14-6. The Wildcat lead was short lived as Jacksonville returned the ensuing kickoff for the score to cut the lead to 14-12. Then the Braves took the lead 18-14 on a TD run with only 56 seconds left in the game, which looked like the final blow for the Wildcats. The excitement then began when Whitehouse took the kickoff and picked up a quick first down on a 25-yard pass from QB Will Weathers to Nuon. Cantrell then handed off to Sanders on the reverse for a 6- yard gain with 29 seconds left, and Whitehouse called its last timeout. On the following play, Cantrell ran the reverse again only faking the handoff to Sanders and heading down the sideline 23 yards for the final score giving the Cats an exciting 20-18 win. |
