FRIENDS AND NEIGHBORS
Fields to try their hands at Farmer's
BY SUZANNE LOUDAMY Staff writer

Photo/Suzanne Loudamy Lorinda and Scott Fields are the new owners of Farmer's Cafe in Troup. The restaurant has been closed for renovations, but the couple hopes to be open for business by Monday.
Home grown and vine ripened in Troup, Scott Fields said he always wanted to invest in a business in his hometown.

That's just what he and wife Lorinda have done. The Fields are the proud new owners of the Farmer's Café, a landmark in Troup on Duval Street.

Mr. Fields has been working for his father, Bob Fields, and Dewayne Womack in their logging business for the past 16 years. Lorinda has been with Wal Mart for 12 years. They were just waiting for the right opportunity to come along and they believe it did.

"When I heard that the owner was looking to sell the café, I jumped at the chance," Mr. Fields said. "I'll still be working the logging job, but I think we'll get more time with our kids being here."

The Fields have two daughters. Whittany is 10 and Brittany is 17.

Mrs. Fields will be running Farmer's with the help of Dollie, of course, who everyone agreed came with the building.

Some things will change but most will stay the same. The Fields say there is no need to improve on the great "home cooking" that Farmer's is famous for.

Changes that will be seen start at the front door with a big NO SMOKING sign. The café will no longer allow smoking in the building.

Many will find this a breath of fresh air, and the Fields hope the others will adapt.

Kitchen work has been completed, painting and decorating has been changed up giving each dining room its own theme.

Breakfast is served at 6 a.m. daily. They will remain open until 9 p.m. and will still serve those blue plate specials at lunch. Sunday hours will be 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Fields have a few more rows to hoe, but hope that Farmer's Café will be open for business by Monday, Oct. 15.

They invite you by to say hello and enjoy the food.
