Freshman Wildcats scalp Indians in two games

The Whitehouse freshman football teams picked up two wins last week at home against the Jacksonville Indians.

The "B" game started out slow as both teams failed to score in the first half, but Whitehouse got on the board on their first possession of the second half.

After Jacob Gardner's kick off return to the Whitehouse 44, Zach Kennedy found Charles Bell on an option pass deep into Indian territory.

On the next play, Gardner got loose down the sideline but was hit hard at the two. The fumble popped up in the air and right into the waiting arms of QB Brendon Hedges who jumped into the end zone from two yards out for the score. Devin Matthews's PAT gave give the Wildcats the 7-0 lead.

Later in the fourth quarter, Kyle Mooney picked up a fumble for the Wildcats and the ensuing drive found the Wildcats in position to score again, but the Jacksonville defense stiffened and forced a turnover on downs.

Just as the momentum had turned towards the Indians, Sam Foley picked off a pass and raced 18 yards for the score to preserve the Wildcat victory, 13-0.

In the "A" game, the Wildcats rushed out to a 20-0 lead at the half on their way to a 34-6 win over the Indians.

The Wildcats wasted little time getting on the board as a good kick off return by Shundrick Beasley put the Wildcats in good field position at the Jacksonville 48 to start the game.

After running seven yards for a first down on 4th and 2, QB Conner Cashion hit Johnathan Parker down to the Indian 21-yard line.

On the next play, Cashion hit Terrance Franklin on a swing pass, and he went the distance for a 21-yard score to give Whitehouse the early 6-0 lead.

After forcing a punt, Whitehouse hit again quickly as Parker hauled in a pass from Cashion and went 55 yards to the house, but another botched snap on the PAT kept the lead at 12-0 at the end of the first period.

The Whitehouse defense continued its dominance into the second quarter as Pat Cook picked up a sack on 3rd and 8 to force Jacksonville into a long fourth down play that failed.

The Whitehouse ground attack then took over as Beasley rushed twice to move the ball to the Jacksonville 36 before taking a screen pass for another 12 yards on 3rd and 10 to set the Wildcats up 1st and goal from the Indian 10.

Cashion did the rest on two carries with the second one being a one-yard scoring run as time ran out in the half. Beasley pushed through for the two-point conversion to build the lead to 20- 0 at halftime.

Whitehouse gave up an early score to start the second half before Beasley scored on a 55-yard screen pass from Cashion breaking tackles to get the score right back for Whitehouse. Cashion would run in for the two-point conversion to build the lead to 28-6.

Austin Moore stopped a late drive by the Indians on an interception in the end zone and returned the pick to the threeyard line.

After runs by Matt Durst and Cashion, a handof f to D. Mwape resulted in a 52-yard TD run to end the scoring at 34-6.
