WH subvarsity falls to Pirates

The Whitehouse JV lost a hard fought game on the road last week in Pine Tree 33-20. This was the first loss on the year for the JV as their district record moved to 1-1.

Special teams were the early bright spot for the Wildcats as the punt team picked up a fumbled punt by Pine Tree after the Cats could not move the ball on its first possession.

The turnover proved costly to the Pirates as QB Preston Conder hit Logan Taylor for a 15-yard scoring strike to stake the Cats to an early 7-0 lead.

The lead did not last long as Pine Tree broke loose for a 64- yard TD run to tie the game on its next possession.

Whitehouse RB, Kevin Hickman, took things into his own hands on the next Whitehouse possession carrying the ball five times in the drive for 45 yards with the last carry going for a 2-yard TD score to put the Cats back in front 14-7.

Again, the lead was short lived as Pine tree scored on its next possession to knot things back up at 14-14 with 9:04 left in the second quarter.

The offensive fireworks continued as Whitehouse got the lead back on its next possession.

Conder first found Jamie Antu for a 28-yard completion moving the ball into Pirate territory.

Hickman then burst through the middle to the 22 before scoring on an 18-yard run, but a missed PAT moved the score to 20-14 at the half.

The second half proved to be the opposite of the freshman game as Pine Tree came out and made the big plays scoring on runs of 66 and 38 yards.

The Pirate defense also stepped up with heavy pressure on Conder and picked up a big interception at their own three yard line to stop a third quarter scoring drive.

Trailing 27-20 with 4:33 left in the game, the Wildcats made a costly mistake failing to cover the Pine Tree kick off and allowing the Pirates to recover the kick and then convert a fourth and seven try late in the drive for the score to give the Pirates a 33-20 win.

The JV hits the road tonight to Hallsville to do battle with the Bobcats and get back on the winning track. Game time is immediately following the freshman game at approximately 7 p.m.
