Junior high Ladycats down Lions

Although Columbus Day may have been a holiday for several, the Ladycat Jr. High volleyball team had its holiday cut short as both teams traveled to Henderson to take on the Lady Lions.

The "B" team started the evening by pushing the Lady Lions to three games. The competition was fierce as the first game went to the home team 23-25 but the Ladycats battled back to take the next two games 25-15 and 25-23. Standouts for the Ladycats were Jessica Hernandez with 17 ser vice points including 5 aces. Taylor Allen contributed 15 also with 2 aces, Emily Car ter had 12 points and 1 ace and Sierra Kennedy had 11 and 2.

The Ladycats "A" team also had a tough match but fell in two games 22-25 and 26-28. The Ladycats were led by Erica Jordan with 20 service points and 4 aces. Michelle Stewart followed with 8 points while Rachel Garlitz, Shelby Galloway, and Kenzie Patterson each had 4 points.

The Ladycats play at home on the 22nd as Lufkin will be in to take on the 7th and 8th grade "A" teams. The 7th grade teams will be competing in the district tournament on Saturday the 20th against Hallsville, Jacksonville, Marshall and Pine Tree.

The final games for all teams will be against Pine Tree on the 29th. "I hate to see the season coming to and end" said Coach Shari Knight. "This has been a building year and one that has been full of surprises and I hope that the community can come out and support these girls in the next couple of weeks as they finish up their seasons" Knight added.
