Attendance zone maps viewed at public forum During a Whitehouse ISD public forum on Monday night, maps lining out the proposed attendance zones for the elementary schools were available for the public to see and ask questions. However no answers to those questions were offered at the time due to the rules of the public forum. Supt. Dennis Miller explained to the group of approximately 45 WISD residents that the purpose of the forum was an opportunity for them to view the proposed plan and to pose questions that would be taken back to the committee for consideration. There was no presentation, only the display of the maps and those who signed up to ask questions did so. Six people signed up to speak at the meeting with all but one of the questioners asking about the placement of Preschool Program for Children with Disabilities, Pre-K or Gifted and Talented programs. All of these are special programs offered through the school district. Miller said that all of the questions posed would be taken back to the committee for their consideration. Upon further questioning about the process of the forum, Miller said again that the purpose of the forum was to gain input about the attendance zones and that the placement of the special programs would be addressed at a later time. "It's on our timeline for what we will do in what order," Miller said. "We're just not to that point yet." No questions or comments were made directly regarding the choice of where the attendance zones were set. The citizen committee will continue their process at a meeting on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6 p.m. in the library of Whitehouse Junior High School. This meeting is open to the public. |
