Veterans Day events set at WISD campuses

Dylan Cantrell, Hunter Stainback, Bailey McKown and Alex Fort check out photographs that students at the junior high have submitted for the multimedia presentation that is part of the Veterans Day ceremony on Nov. 9.
Students at Whitehouse Junior High will continue their tradition of "Honoring All Who Served" with a ceremony on Friday, Nov. 9 in C.L. Nix Gym at 9 a.m. This annual event allows every student to honor the men and women of our military and to thank those who have protected our freedoms.

The WJHS Band, Choirs, and Theatre Arts students are currently working on their salute to these heroes. The Treble Choir will be singing "Song for the Unsung Hero"-a tribute to all those who have bravely served our country. The Combined Men's Choir will perform "The Flag" as a tribute to what our flag means.

Eighth grade band members will perform several patriotic pieces which include-March of the Armed Forces, The Navy Hymn and America the Beautiful. Theatre Art students will present a skit of "Historical Reflections." Boys Scouts from Troops 359 and 248 will serve as ushers and participate in a wreath laying ceremony for the Unknown Soldier and POW.

All students may bring a photo of family and friends who are veterans or who are now in the military. These treasured photos will be incorporated in a multi-media presentation. Photos become a history lesson for the class. Students discover in this personal journey that "freedom is never free" (author unknown).
